PAIGE NELSON

My name is Paige.

I'm an aspiring photographer with an insatiable curiosity and an appetite for the fantastic.

This blog is dedicated to my greatest passion- photography. All of the photos on here are mine unless otherwise stated.

I had a rough day the other day…the field at golden hour always seems to make me feel better.
I swear photography is 100X better than keeping a diary.

Is that a…smile?
Flowers, golden hour and hair. Am I becoming too predictable?
This is my first expansion with the MKII…and with vertical pictures. I finally have a sturdy enough tripod for that. :)
Got some new props to play with!

I was up in La Jolla and ventured to Mt. Soledad just before the sunset. Crawled into some bushes to escape spectators…normal.
That view is to die for. Mountains to the left, ocean to the right. :)

I needed a change of scenery to get me out of my rut. I’m finally feeling inspired again.
I wasn’t able to get to the other photo I took today…it’s my favorite. More tomorrow…until then good night. :)

I’m excited to announce that this will be a part of a weekly collaboration series with fellow Flickrite and 365er Glenda Lissette. :) The theme is “art through the ages.” Every photo is inspired by a different style of art, as you might have guessed. Today was the only day I could make it to this location, so mine is a little early. Go look at hers tomorrow!
Prehistoric cave art falls first on the timeline. This photo was inspired by the Cueva de las manos located in Santa Cruz, Argentina. The drawings date from 13,000 to 9,300 years ago and there is an estimated 890 stenciled hands total.
I was going to dress up as a cave woman and pretend to be painting, but my wardrobe lacks fur or loin cloths. So here I am as an archaeologist trying to recreate the hands on paper. Don’t the glasses make me look smarter? Actually, they just gave me a serious headache.
It was certainly an adventure putting this all together. Andrew agreed to hike out to the middle of nowhere with me this afternoon in search of some heavy duty rocks. I enlisted him to help me stencil all of these hands with sidewalk chalk (which took FOREVER…and it’s only like 30!). They are all real. My fingers are still raw from smearing it everywhere.
As I was going to put my camera back in my bag, this GIANT rattlesnake came out of the bushes and nearly bit me. I screamed. Loud. Like a little girl. Andrew had to use my tripod to lever my backpack away from it. We managed to get all the stuff away from it, except for the picture of the hands I printed out to use as a reference while drawing. At least it will provide an explanation for hikers who see all these kindergarten-esque hands…
Needless to say I was a lot braver going up than going down. I thought I would return for future photos but I think now I’ll pass.

1. Because I have two huge assignments do tomorrow and no time to go galavanting around town.
2. Because lately my stream has been dark and moody.
3. Because I don’t want to become predictable.
4. Because I just don’t care.

It was one of those days where everything just hits you like a brick. I am burnt out…and slightly overwhelmed by everything going on.
It seems like this project is the only thing keeping me sane. It’s the only time I get to catch my breath.

Sorry I cheated. This is the photo I’m using to make up for yesterday.
It was my friend’s last day here before moving back home across the country. Goodbyes aren’t fun…wasn’t really in the mood to take a picture.
This field by my house is blooming again. Everything is green and beautiful. I’ll probably be back tomorrow.

Via Flickr: The sunshine lifted my spirits today. I discovered a new part of the lake today. Less people and more peace! This week has been nonstop responsibility. Today I actually got to do what I wanted. Time to run, time to cook, time to shoot. Clean car, clean sheets, clean room. Ahhh. :) Plus I ordered some new camera accessories that I’ve been needing. Back up battery (Hallelujah), a new memory card, tripod case and a lens cap keeper….I always lose that darn cap.

Via Flickr: A beautiful day spent in Julian with good company. I was driving most of the day but it was so worth it. Me and my friend Amanda explored Lake Cuyamaca, multiple view points and private property. The nice, gooey carmel apple at the end of the day completed the trip. :)

Bittersweet Symphony by P.E.N. on Flickr.
Via Flickr: Day 32. Inspired by my all time favorite song. Bittersweet Symphony- The Verve Cause it’s a bittersweet symphony this life Trying to make ends meet, you’re a slave to the money then you die I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down You know the one that takes you to the places where all the veins meet, yeah No change, I can’t change, I can’t change, I can’t change, but I’m here in my mold , I am here in my mold But I’m a million different people from one day to the next I can’t change my mold, no, no, no, no, no Well, I’ve never prayed, But tonight I’m on my knees, yeah I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind , I feel free now But the airwaves are clean and there’s nobody singing to me now No change, I can’t change, I can’t change, I can’t change, but I’m here in my mold , I am here with my mold And I’m a million different people from one day to the next I can’t change my mold, no, no, no, no, no ‘Cause it’s a bittersweet symphony this life Trying to make ends meet, trying to find some money then you die I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down You know the one that takes you to the places where all the veins meet, yeah You know I can’t change, I can’t change, I can’t change, but I’m here in my mold, I am here in my mold And I’m a million different people from one day to the next I can’t change my mold, no,no,no,no,no

Inspired by my all time favorite song. Bittersweet Symphony- The Verve

Trying to make ends meet, you’re a slave to the money then you die

And I’m a million different people from one day to the next
I can’t change my mold, no, no, no, no, no

‘Cause it’s a bittersweet symphony this life
Trying to make ends meet, trying to find some money then you die

Hubba Hubba Bubba by P.E.N. Photography on Flickr.
Via Flickr: Day 6.Today was my first day of work. Filling out that work availbility sheet felt like I was signing away my soul for the summer. Long gone are the days of no responsibility.Feeling a little nostalgic for the good ‘ole little kid days, I walked into 7-11 today and went straight for the candy. Got myself a ring pop and some hubba bubba. 3 pieces of hubba bubba later, a sore jaw, and countless attempts to blow a decent sized bubble. Tah-da! No one’s going to burst my bubble now.
