Black Wave on Flickr.Via Flickr:
I went to Sunset Cliffs last weekend with Andrew because I’ve been missing shooting regularly.
The tide was low revealing all these wonderful sea caves and outcroppings…but the only way down to the shore was scaling the cliff. There’s always been a rope tethered to a rock for people to go up and down an eight foot section of the cliff, but someone decided to be a jerk and take it with them.
Well we decided to go anyway. I made it about half way down using foot holds and handholds before I lost my grip and fell. I scraped my arm pretty good and was covered in dust but it didn’t hurt too much. :P
I have another photo from the shoot this day. I’ll also be posting the before and after on my Facebook page so check it out!I only need 56 more likes on page before I draw print winners. Go enter if you haven’t already! :)

Aaaand that’s a wrap. This is my final cruise photo. I’m not completely happy with the editing and whatnot but I’m tired of looking at it.
I scored on a penny slot in the casino which essentially covered my vacation expenses. I only missed one day of my 365 which is pretty impressive.
It was a great trip overall…but I’m happy to be home. :)

Just got home from my cruise to Mexico yesterday. It was fun and a much needed get away, but I’m happy to be home.
This is the first time I’ve used a fisheye for self-portraits. Shot with the old fart D80 balancing on top of a flimsy tripod since my nice one is too heavy to travel with. This is not as clean as I would like it to be…but it was my first day on the ship and I was feeling a little lazy. Plus it was windy as hell on the little balcony so I gave up after a couple of tries. More from the trip to come.
I can’t believe there’s only one week left of summer before school starts up again. :( I hope I can keep up when the semester starts.

I bought this killer hat for my cruise next week. Has a vintage Titanic-esque feel to it. :)
That being said I will be without wifi starting Sunday. I’m not sure if I will be able to bring a tripod with me so I might have to put the project on hold until I get back. :/

214/365: Up With the Birds on Flickr.Via Flickr:The birds they sang, at break of day.
“Start again”, I hear them say.
It’s so hard to just walk away.
The birds they sang, all a choir,
“Start again a little higher”.
It’s a spark in a sea of gray.
-Coldplay
Don’t be deceived…it is tourist season in San Diego and this beach was packed. I would have never even considered this location 6 months ago. I have overcome my fear of shooting in public…now I will set up wherever, whenever. :)
Hope my editing experimentation isn’t throwing anyone off.

Sunset cliffs is officially my favorite location to shoot. I always find new wonders ever time I go.
I saw one of the best sunsets of summer today. The whole sky was glowing orange and I think (?) I witnessed my first green flash. :)

200/365: Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean on Flickr.Via Flickr:
Day 200…is this real? The progress I’ve made since I started this project is truly astounding. I never believed I could grow so much in as little as six months.
I had a concept involving balloons planned for this. I went to Vons and asked for 12 rainbow balloons only to be informed there is a “nation wide helium shortage.” Not sure if I believe this since there were THOUSANDS of balloons at pride.
This looked awesome in black in white too, but I’m a sucker for blue. I stepped on a dead jellyfish…ew. And yes, I did buy roses for myself.
I have to go take my picture for today before I lose the light. See ya later. :)

199/365: Seaside on Flickr.Via Flickr: Do you want to go to the seaside?
I’m not trying to say that everybody wants to go
I fell in love at the seaside
She handled her charm with time and slight of hand, and oh
But I’m just trying to love you
In any kind of way
But I find it hard to love you girl
When you’re far away
Away
-The Kooks
One of my first favorite bands…saw them perform here twice.
Bought this starfish the other day in Ocean Beach. I’ve been loving shooting at the beach lately. :)

194/365: Never Let Me Go on Flickr.Via Flickr:And the arms of the ocean are carrying me
And all this devotion was rushing out of me
In the crushes of heaven for a sinner like me
But the arms of the ocean delivered me
Though the pressure’s hard to take
It’s the only way I can escape
It seems a heavy choice to make
And now I am under all
And it’s breaking over me
A thousand miles down to the sea bed
Found the place to rest my head
Never let me go
Never let me go
-Florence and the Machine
I’ve been wanting to do something like this for awhile…this song was my complete inspiration. Music is magical.
I wanted to shoot this in the same place I took “Swimming”; at Sunset cliffs, but it was high tide and all the rocks were covered with water. Andrew and I kept walking along the cliffs and went farther down than I had ever been. Someone tethered a rope to a rock so you could scale the wall down to the beach. At the end of the sand was this beautiful outcropping of rocks that overlooked a cove the waves carved out.
I wanted to shoot in the cove, but waves kept washing in….I still wanted to try. I stripped my jeans off to my bathing suit bottoms (even though you can’t see..) because I had this strange feeling I would get wet.
Andrew was in charge of protecting the camera. Sure enough, just as I was about to start shooting, this HUGE wave came and DRENCHED us. I don’t know how he did it, but Andrew pulled a ninja move and saved the camera. Not a drop of water got on it.
I don’t know how risky I’m going to get with the MKII anymore…I settled for this dry(er) location.
P.S. Thank you Simon for the email this morning. Made me smile. :)

173/265: Swimming on Flickr.Via Flickr:Your songs remind me of swimming,
Which I forgot when I started to sink
Dragged further away from the shore,
And deeper into the drink
Sat on the bottom of the ocean,
A stern and stubborn rock
‘Cause your songs remind me of swimming,
But somehow I forgot
I was sinking, and now I’m sunk
I was drinking, and now I’m drunk
Your songs remind me of swimming,
But somehow I forgot
Florence and the Machine
As I was sitting here watching this epic sunset, it hit me how much this project has opened my eyes to the beauty of the world around me. Not only have I seen a record amount of sunsets this year, I’ve also discovered breathtaking scenery here in my own backyard. I never knew there were tide pools at Sunset Cliffs until yesterday and I’ve lived here for 20 years. I saw an octupus for crying out loud!
Sometimes we take the things around us for granted. This project allows me to take time to breathe, soak it all in and appreciate what I’ve been given. And for that I am forever grateful.

166/365: Ocean Breathes Salty on Flickr.Via Flickr:Well that is that and this is this.
Will you tell me what you saw and I’ll tell you what you missed,
when the ocean met the sky.
You missed when time and life shook hands and said goodbye.
When the earth folded in on itself.
And said “Good luck, for your sake I hope heaven and hell
are really there, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.”
You wasted life, why wouldn’t you waste death?
You wasted life, why wouldn’t you waste death?
The ocean breathes salty, won’t you carry it in?
In your head, in your mouth, in your soul.
The more we move ahead the more we’re stuck in rewind.
Well I don’t mind. I don’t mind. How the hell could I mind?

It was overcast at the beach the other day but the sky still looked insane. I have a gazillion photos to get through.
