229/365: Golden Slumbers on Flickr.
So…this is my very first time expanding myself and I have to say it is quite difficult. Not to mention I totally screwed up my expansion by keeping the lens on AF. -_- I was forced to clone most of the surrounding area.
Inspired by Time Keeper by Kiara Rose. This girl is incredible and has been a huge source of inspiration to me throughout my project. She has a month left until the end of her own 365…if you’re not already following her I suggest you check her out. :)
228/365: End of the Road on Flickr.
I feel like I wear this outfit for photos too much…oops.
I get a little cranky when I think I’m going to run out of light and I had 2 minutes until it disappeared. I was setting up frantically when these two guys in a pick up pulled over and started harassing me about what I was doing. I snapped and said, “What does it look like I’m doing? I’m trying to taking a damn picture.”
Well they didn’t like that. They sped off saying “Fuck you” repeatedly. Can someone please tell me why people have such a hard time minding their own damn business? Sheesh.
227/365: Beyond the Sea on Flickr.
Aaaand that’s a wrap. This is my final cruise photo. I’m not completely happy with the editing and whatnot but I’m tired of looking at it.
I scored on a penny slot in the casino which essentially covered my vacation expenses. I only missed one day of my 365 which is pretty impressive.
It was a great trip overall…but I’m happy to be home. :)
226/365: Stereo Love on Flickr.
The interior design of the boat was a little wacky as you can see…kind of trippy.
I went to the 12th deck late at night to escape all the people. It was creepy up there by myself in a deserted hallway.
The spotlights made me feel like I was on stage. It’s very hard to maintain a pose like this on a rocking boat.
I really hate expanding rooms like this…the patterns saved me.
225/365: Mansard Roof on Flickr.
I randomly woke up at 5:30 in the morning and caught the sun rising over the roof tops of this beautiful city. Most people onboard were still fast asleep so it was nice and peaceful up on the 11th deck.
We took an hour boat ride out to a private beach called Las Casitas where I spent the whole day snorkeling, drinking margaritas and holding hermit crabs. This was my favorite day of the whole trip. :)
224/365: The Storm on Flickr.
We were supposed to spend this day in Cabo, but the weather was too nasty. We spent another day at sea and docked in Puerto Vallarta the next day.
I took a quick shower and rushed out of my room just in time to catch the best sunset of the trip. Those dark, menacing clouds were only the beginning of the storm. There was lighting while I was shooting. The wind kept blowing my shirt up…I’m sure the people eating dinner behind the windows enjoyed the show. -_-
223/365: My Heart Will Go On on Flickr.
I have so many photos to get through and things to do this week it’s getting difficult to keep up. -_-
This was probably the most embarrassing picture I’ve ever taken. It’s a little hard to get any privacy on a boat with 1,000 other passengers. People kept coming out of their rooms and staring at me. I think I gave up after 5 minutes of being interrupted…I felt pretty silly in a bright orange life vest.
The editing isn’t perfect but I’m satisfied. I’ve had this idea in my head ever since Day 96. Thanks for all your titanic comments guys. Hahaha :)
I’m off to take my picture for today…which you guys probably won’t even see for like a week.
221/365: Heartbreaker on Flickr.
This somehow evolved from an extremely failed attempt to shoot with an ice cream cone.
It has been ungodly hot here this week…unbearably so. The ice cream became mush in my car in a matter of 5 minutes, even with the AC on. In honor of the sweltering heat, I attempted to capture the ice cream as it melted down my hand. I did…for about 3 frames before it fell off the cone and became a gooey mess. It got all over my hands, my clothes and my equipment. -_- So I ate it…and did this instead.
Cool story, I know.
Off to Cabo, see you in a week! :)
220/365: Where the Streets Have No Name on Flickr.
I want to run
I want to hide
I want to tear down the walls
That hold me inside
I want to reach out
And touch the flame
Where the streets have no name
I want to feel sunlight on my face
I see the dust cloud disappear
Without a trace
I want to take shelter from the poison rain
Where the streets have no name
Sorry I’ve been so busy packing for my trip tomorrow. I’ll have one more photo uploaded by the end of the night and then it’s bon voyage until next Sunday!
I’ve decided to pack my cheap tripod so I can at least attempt to keep up. Excited to explore the cruise ship!
I drove around my neighborhood and spontaneously pulled over on this street..it was strangely peaceful. I’m having a lot of fun experimenting with editing lately.
219/365: Dream a Little Dream of Me on Flickr.
I bought this killer hat for my cruise next week. Has a vintage Titanic-esque feel to it. :)
That being said I will be without wifi starting Sunday. I’m not sure if I will be able to bring a tripod with me so I might have to put the project on hold until I get back. :/
218/365: Bookends on Flickr.
I had a rough day the other day…the field at golden hour always seems to make me feel better.
I swear photography is 100X better than keeping a diary.
217/365: I Love the Flower Girl on Flickr.
Is that a…smile?
Flowers, golden hour and hair. Am I becoming too predictable?
This is my first expansion with the MKII…and with vertical pictures. I finally have a sturdy enough tripod for that. :)
Got some new props to play with!
200/365: Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean on Flickr.
Day 200…is this real? The progress I’ve made since I started this project is truly astounding. I never believed I could grow so much in as little as six months.
I had a concept involving balloons planned for this. I went to Vons and asked for 12 rainbow balloons only to be informed there is a “nation wide helium shortage.” Not sure if I believe this since there were THOUSANDS of balloons at pride.
This looked awesome in black in white too, but I’m a sucker for blue. I stepped on a dead jellyfish…ew. And yes, I did buy roses for myself.
I have to go take my picture for today before I lose the light. See ya later. :)
197/365: Runaway on Flickr.
I was feeling sad,
Can’t help looking back
Highways flew by…
Run, run, run away
No sense of time
I’d like you to stay,
Want keep you inside
Run, run, run away
Lost, lost, lost my mind
-Yeah Yeah Yeahs
I think it’s pretty funny you can make out IKEA in the distance hahah.
I can’t believe day 200 is almost here.
194/365: Never Let Me Go on Flickr.
And the arms of the ocean are carrying me
And all this devotion was rushing out of me
In the crushes of heaven for a sinner like me
But the arms of the ocean delivered me
Though the pressure’s hard to take
It’s the only way I can escape
It seems a heavy choice to make
And now I am under all
And it’s breaking over me
A thousand miles down to the sea bed
Found the place to rest my head
Never let me go
Never let me go
-Florence and the Machine
I’ve been wanting to do something like this for awhile…this song was my complete inspiration. Music is magical.
I wanted to shoot this in the same place I took “Swimming”; at Sunset cliffs, but it was high tide and all the rocks were covered with water. Andrew and I kept walking along the cliffs and went farther down than I had ever been. Someone tethered a rope to a rock so you could scale the wall down to the beach. At the end of the sand was this beautiful outcropping of rocks that overlooked a cove the waves carved out.
I wanted to shoot in the cove, but waves kept washing in….I still wanted to try. I stripped my jeans off to my bathing suit bottoms (even though you can’t see..) because I had this strange feeling I would get wet.
Andrew was in charge of protecting the camera. Sure enough, just as I was about to start shooting, this HUGE wave came and DRENCHED us. I don’t know how he did it, but Andrew pulled a ninja move and saved the camera. Not a drop of water got on it.
I don’t know how risky I’m going to get with the MKII anymore…I settled for this dry(er) location.
P.S. Thank you Simon for the email this morning. Made me smile. :)
